Ardent Girls, A Dramatic Reading of the Play by Amy Merrill

Amy Merrill's play focuses on end-of-the-last century social reformer Jane Addams, who discovered running a settlement house for women in 1890s Chicago wasn't easy. Seeking inspiration, she travels to Russia to meet her idol Leo Tolstoy, but it's an encounter closer to home, with journalist Ida B Wells, that makes the bigger impression. This on-line screening will be available only through May 31st. Commissioned as part of the Mariposa's Americans Who Tell the Truth series, with funding from NH Humanities and the Eppes-Jefferson Fund, this filmed reading was produced by the NH Theatre Project and directed by Genevieve Aichele, NHTP Creative Director.

Tibetan Monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery

Jennifer Dickinson

The Tibetan Monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery returned to the Mariposa Museum & World Culture Center, in October of 2023, to share Tibetan Buddhist culture and practice and call for compassion.

The five-day visit was part of a national tour organized by the U.S.-based Drepung Gomang Center for Engaging Compassion. The tour helped raise funds to support and sustain 2,000 monks living and studying at Drepung Gomang Monastery, in Karnataka State, South India.

At the Mariposa, the monks created a sand mandala, held a cultural pageant, sold crafts, and also offered private pujas and blessings for members of the community.

Visitors were invited to observe the monks creating a large sand mandala, which will began each day with an opening ceremony at 11 a.m.

We need your support to help us meet our pledge to Drepung Gomang Monastery for the monks visit!
