Iran will be the subject of two programs at the Mariposa Museum in Peterborough next week.
“Iran in Historical Context” will be the theme of a talk at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, by Olga Merck Davidson, a Dublin resident who is a scholar of Persia, Iran, and the Arab world. Drawing on her deep knowledge of Iran and a wide network of Iranian friends and colleagues, she will discuss Iranian history and culture.
Davidson taught Persian and Arabic languages and literature at Brandeis and is affiliated with Boston University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Societies and Civilizations. She founded the Ilex Foundation to promote research and publications on civilizations of the Mediterranean and Near East.
“The War with Iran” will be the subject of the Peterborough International Affairs forum at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 2. Moderators will be Bob Beck, and Tony Pascale, Peterborough residents. Beck spent more than 30 years abroad in the foreign policy establishment. Pascale worked more than 40 years in international manufacturing management.
The program will include an audience discussion of key issues including the justification for the war, its legality, America’s goals, and the war’s possible outcomes and implications.
“As we’ve seen, this war touches the whole world, not just the United States, Israel and Iran,” Pascale noted. “We’ll explore the stakes for all sides.”
For additional background before the PIAF meeting, an interview by Ezra Klein of the New York Times with Ali Vaez, Iran project director of the International Crisis Group, is available at:
