Harry Seymour, A Martha’s Vineyard Artist

June 10th Through September 21st

We’re honored to host the work of Harry Seymour at the Mariposa Museum throughout the summer. His art is a deeply personal reflection of what moves him emotionally—whether it be awe, sorrow, joy, or wonder. Each piece tells a story rooted in feeling, inviting viewers to connect with the quiet intensity behind his subjects.

Much of his inspiration comes from the landscapes and community of Martha’s Vineyard, a place he captures with profound sensitivity and vibrant detail. The island's ever-changing beauty and diversity of people serve as a canvas for his creative vision, adding depth and energy to his work.

Known for pushing boundaries with his materials, Harry blends traditional and experimental techniques to achieve striking effects. His process may involve combining scratchboard with pastel on clayboard, or applying egg tempera in ways seldom seen. The result is a body of work that is both technically impressive and emotionally resonant—an exploration of place, memory, and mood through a distinctive artistic lens.
