Richard has over twenty years experience in international development work in many areas of the world. He started as a US Peace Corps Volunteer. This was followed by twelve years living and working in southern Africa through USAID. Many other years were spent on consulting assignments in numerous places elsewhere in Africa, in the Caribbean, and in Asia. He has taught at the secondary school level at St. Paul's School in Concord and at the university level at Simon's Rock College and UMass-Amherst.

She also worked as a writer and editor of teacher training materials and ESL textbooks. Her overseas work was in Lesotho, Botswana, and Swaziland and as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in the Caribbean.
