  • The Mbukushu tribe from Namibia used baskets for carrying and storing grains, peanuts, sorghum, and different foods. They store seeds in the closed baskets. Baskets were also used for ornamentals and are hung on the wall when not in use. 

  • They use baskets for storage and for carrying foods from the market. The basket is used for another function besides being worn or played with. The basket is used to carry things from one place to another on someone’s back or in their hands. The purpose of the basket is to relate the basket to you.   

  • The people who created the baskets used them to celebrate marriages, births, and deaths. 

  • The basket patterns mostly come from animals. Traditional basket weaving has become less common.

  • African BasketBaskets have been used lately to make profits. Baskets were highly valued by Africans because the baskets were very useful.
