Turquoise TalismanResearch and Webpage By RebeccaThe Talisman was used and made in Mali, but my research didn’t indicate what ethnic group used it. The Talisman was used to keep a family's herd safe from harm. The herder of the family wore it around his/her neck. It had a pouch that was used to hold magical substances and Arabic verses.
I believe it
was meant to ward off evil spirits and carnivorous animals. - This
item reflects superstious beliefs held by Malian people.
The Malians believed in magic and sorcery; they used “magic” to protect
their cities.
