  • The Masai are the ethnic group that wears these kinds of necklaces. They live in southern Kenya and Tanzania.
  • They wear bright colors such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, black, and white. Red and white beads represent cows’ blood and milk, which is a source of their nutrition. Green beads represent grass.
  • Women wear these necklaces as a symbol of wealth. A woman was very wealthy if she had lots of necklaces and poor if she was only wearing several necklaces. Men wear these necklaces at ceremonies.
