OrnamentBy, Jessica Quirbach - This necklace may have come from the Samburu tribe in central Kenya.
The exact spot where the beaded necklaces may have came from is unknown
but the necklaces made by the Samburu look just like this. The beaded necklace was used for an
Emurature, which is a ceremony that is for Samburu boys that want to become
warriors or Imurran. It is fashionable to wear with bright red
material. They can be used as wedding gifts and for the bride to wear as jewelry. The beads can be traded by Africans. The
beaded necklace might have also come from the Swahili tribe. They made
their bead necklaces from clay, stones, twigs, eggshells, ivory, and
bones. The bead necklaces pictured here looks just like
the one that the Swahili tribe makes.
- Both tribes may have just used it for fashion too.
